Our Story

About Us

Airway Limited started development of the ORSIM bronchoscopy simulator in 2006.

The ORSIM system has been designed as an affordable solution to address an urgent need to improve bronchoscopy training. We have developed a high quality, virtual reality, bronchoscopy simulator that is small, portable and capable of running off a laptop. This combined with the latest computer graphics and simulation technology takes hands-on experience to a new dimension.

Our talented development team includes software engineers, 3-D graphics and user interface experts, simulator designers, electronics engineers and industrial designers. The development has been directed by an anesthesiologist who specialises in airway management and flexible bronchoscopy.

Dr Paul Baker founded Airway Limited and began the development of the ORSIM bronchoscopy simulator in 2006. He is a practising anesthesiologist who recognized the need for a small, portable simulator which could be used both in training centres and within the workplace to allow staff and students to learn bronchoscopy.

Dr Baker is known internationally for his research and teaching in the field of airway management. He began AirwaySkills™ in 1996 as the first training course in the southern hemisphere to teach the management of the difficult airway and now operates regular courses in New Zealand and Australia. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology at the University of Auckland and the President Elect of the Society for Airway Management. He has numerous publications in the field of airway management. He is an advisor to the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and teaches internationally, including at the World Congress of Anaesthetists and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
